Two Jailed For Stealing Planks
An Abeokuta Magistrates Court sitting in Isabo, Thursday,
sentenced a teenager, Kazeem Oluwole, and his friend, Ahmed Sabitu, 22,
to two years imprisonment for stealing planks worth N40,000 in Lafenwa
sawmill, Abeokuta.
The Police prosecutor, Augustine Ozimini told the court that Sabitu and Oluwole were arrested by police after committing the offence on March 3,2013 at about 10 p.m.
According to him, they were arraigned on two-count charge for stealing planks at the Sawmill and assault on the guard on duty, one Seun Ojelabi, who sighted and accosted them while they were stealing the planks.
“They were apprehended by the police when the guard identified them as some of the touts who constitute nuisance around the Sawmill area,” he said
“The offences contravened Sections 561,355 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code,Laws of Ogun, 2006”,he said.
The convicts with no fixed address and means of livelihood pleaded guilty to the two count charge of stealing and assault.
Delivering her judgement on the matter, Magistrate Idowu Olayinka said the evidenced has shown that, the duo committed the crime and thereby deserved to be punished.
She said “Ahmed Sabitu and Kazeem Oluwole are hereby sentenced to two years imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine” .
